The perfect storm is here... Dems and GOP alike have wasted their chances and the door is wide open for a 3rd option to emerge. In the past independent runs for office have been troubled by something that has really kept them from being successful... Fractured-Base Syndrome I will call it... Too many ME statements and not enough WE statements... Not enough answers and too many questions...
Currently however, there are a growing number of people who consider themselves Libertarian, Independent and ANTI-GOP, ANTI-DEM... Sorry President Obama...Nancy...Harry... You're missing the boat here... YOU are all giving a voice, a common voice to a growing number of people who are getting tired of so much... What you ask?
Here is a unique look at our issues with specific answers to solve the problem:
Big-Government getting BIGGER
Every president since Reagan has grown the government in some way... (Reagan as well in some areas, but he was dedicated to middle class America) Bush grew it, Obama grew it and it has gotten too big and will fail. Defense of our country and the management of entitlements has become big business, and every Tom, Dick and Nancy thinks they know whats best for us common folk. Well that is going to stop shortly... Japan had a wake up call this year and we have one coming next year... WE the people do NOT want government telling us what we can and cannot do, being uber responsible for our health or trying to fix everything that is presumed wrong with society.
America was founded on the fact that people wanted FREEDOM above all else and were willing to die for it if that is what it took. We didn't come here to create this grand experiment turned world super-power to dictate to people how they should live. Taxes are here to run government NOT ruin the citizen. Our tax codes are a joke and we are spending money like it isn't our own in Washington.
Answer 1: Force the government to balance the budget under a new model... You have to live on what you earn. The formula will be simple... Just as if you were suddenly in hard financial straits and had to do it on your own... You make X dollars, your budget is X dollars, period.
Now do get the X; A flat tax with no loop holes, outs or umbrellas. 20% across the board flat tax sets your budget for everything you spend, including your salary.
Answer 2: ALL government employees use the same travel, health care and rules as EVERYONE ELSE.
Stop the pork peddling by forcing everyone to travel on commercial aircraft just like us... Stand in line at the airport and go through security screening JUST LIKE US... then we will see just how good regulation gets.
If your sick, go to a VA hospital and get treated just like our military gets treated. If THAT doesn't wake you up to what we really need reformed in our health care, nothing will!
And finally, cap government pay at an amount that reasonable professionals can make. Service is a privilege and really should stop being about how much money you make... If a political figure can make over $200,000 per year, then how does he/she relate to the common worker? Simple, they cant. Power and greed have corrupted our government and we need to stop that. Stop that by limited pay to either a cap of say $125,000 or the average salary of your home state over the last 2 years, which ever is lower.
Spending More than you have
We cannot use credit to finance our lives, how can government use it to finance itself? It has to stop... Bouncing checks and losing your toys are things you see when you over-extend yourself. When we need money we are held to exacting rules about how much we will get, how it is paid back and how many times we can do it... This protects both parties from the risks involved.. RIsk you wont get paid back or risks you will over-extend yourself and not be able to pay back the sum.
Answer 1: EVERY BILL passed and every entitlement program gets a review that says, YEP, we can afford it and here is how it gets funded. (And those funds are fixed and budgeted as well) If we end up using less, the funds don't get spent, they get RETURNED. If you cant fund an idea with your current budget, you don't get to go BORROW more to pay for it. IF we need something as a consumer, we cant just keep going to borrow for every little thing we need no matter how "Justified" the thing may be.
Answer 2: We need a plan to get out of debt. Sit down and formulate just HOW we are going to get out of debt COMPLETELY and start executing that plan. We would do it with our household budget, why not with our government budget? I am sure Dave Ramsey could sit down and figure out a way to pay this debt down and get to a "Pay-As-You-Go" plan.
Blaming the last guy
Boy has this become a crutch lately. I have heard this almost as much as I have heard "My Bad" from my teenage daughter lately! People need to get over the blame game. The last guy is NOT you, that is why he is gone and your are here. (And also why we can replace YOU) That is our system and it works. Stop pointing fingers and do what you were hired to do. If we blamed the last person at our job for everything that was wrong, we would get shit-canned in 2 weeks!
Answer 1: You get a 30 day grace period to refer to previous policies, previous players after your elected. Then, guess what? Your the guy responsible now! YOU don't like it? Fix it! But stop blaming the past and people who cannot change it now if they wanted to. You use the blame game after 30 days... New election, new employee and we find someone who can understand we don't want excuses anymore. AUTOMATIC, no take-backs, after 30 days, you own the problems and the results.
Answer 2: It is all to easy to blame someone else. "My teacher didn't explain that to me right", she said "she would do it", "I thought you said I didn't have to do it". Well, that is lazy to be honest and we don't pay you over $140,000 a year to be lazy... Blame has become the crutch of the lazy in government and we need to take it away. What do you do every time your child says something like this? You tell them... NO, you are responsible, now go do it right! We need to hold our current officials to "doing it right" or boot them.
Answer 3: Term limits. You get ONE term, period. That solves so many things it boggles the mind! You get one chance to fix things or change things and then pass the torch to someone else. Blame will disappear when the reason for blame is taken away. You get this much time, no more.
Saying one thing and doing another
Too often the campaign promises are smoke and mirrors to get into office. We feel lied to and cheated. We get these broad sweeping general promises with no substance and when they turn out to be different than what we really wanted we complain about it.
Answer 1: (see answer 3 above) Term limits will force people to be more specific. When you say something, you need to be specific and be prepared to back that up with details and a well thought out plan of how that is going to unfold.
Answer 2: Government works year-round. No more sessions and breaks. You get 15 days of vacation per year to take and 5 sick days your first year (better than most of us get for new jobs). Use them wisely and they don't carry over. we will add 5 days per year until your 4 year term is up, if you last that long. IF we made political work like our real jobs in the private sector, they would start getting the picture that what you put on your resume, is what you bring to the table.
Answer 3: You get found sleeping, cheating, lying, playing grab-ass or silly games, you are fired!
Now THIS is change I can believe in! What do you think?
